On Saturday I had my first collaboration as a Styling Student with the gorgeous Ali Gordon, aka, Modesto Blog. After a not-so-great last few days, this was the perfect pick-me-up, we seemed to mesh instantly which was portrayed in the photos. With her modelling background and my creative skills, a sort of magic was born.

This was such a eye-opener for me; it gave me insight into the importance of a model's pose and stance and I finally discovered how all the famous bloggers get those amazing angles on their outfits. Although this was not my styling, I did use some of my creativity through certain poses and stances and I definitely feel a bit of me has leaked through these photos.

I have begun my already amazing journey into the life of a stylist! I'm studying a Diploma of Styling at the Australian Institute of Creative Design and I am absolutely loving it. Lovely, fashionable teachers and students and assignemnts that I actually want to do. Could not be happier at the moment. These are some photos that were taken in the past week that the girls and I had some fun with.

Imagine your beloved dog, cat, rabbit, mouse, rat, guinea pig or bird trapped in a less-than-appealing cage, being poked, prodded, burnt and poisoned until the day they die- that's if they don't die from the tests.
Oh? You don't want to picture that? Not surprising, but why would you allow other innocent animals to be deprived of a normal life with a doting family?

Nowadays, everything is tested on animals- from paint to cosmetics to glue and to toothpaste. It's a worldwide trend that needs to go out of fashion, quick (sorry for corny metaphor).

Here's some facts for you:

1. Over 100 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in US labs every year
2. When used in cosmetic tests, mice, rats, rabbits, and guinea pigs are often subjected to skin and eye irritation tests where chemicals are rubbed on shaved skin or dripped into the eyes without any pain relief.
3. No experiment is illegal, no matter how cruel, irrelevant to human health, redundant, or painful.
4. Ninety five percent of animals used for experiments are excluded from the only federal law offering any sort of protection.
5. Even when valid alternatives to animals are available, the law doesn’t require that they be used.

Up until about a year ago, I used any make-up that took my fancy. Nowadays, I'm not so lavish. That's not to say I'm perfect, there has been times where I've picked up a magazine with a Revlon mascara in it (Could I really resist Blake Lively, though?). There was also that time when there was no foundation to be seen in my colour, so I had no choice but to grab a Maybelline foundation (In hindsight, I probably could have waited AND this was in the early days of my conversion to cruelty-free).
Yes, it is hard at times when brands bring out eye shadows that look like they've been created by a make-up goddess, but I've come to learn that the brands that are cruelty-free tend to bring out similar version a few weeks after- it's all about self control.

Here's a list (Courtesy of PETA) of some well known brands that either DO test on animals or DO NOT test on animals:

Hopefully now you have a better understanding of the good comapnies and the cruel comapnies and will start to make a change. Animal testing is so outdated and if SO many companies nowadays can make amazing make-up (Ahem! Nars and Too Faced) then I honestly cannot see ANY reason to use this stupid method.

I just wanted to say, though, that what I've said on this post is my opinion and I'm sorry if I have offended anyone but this is such an important topic to me and I really want people to realise that all their favourite brands torture what should be household pets and I really strongly urge you to stop using these brands. That way the company will get the picture and switch to cruelty-free (well, that's the dream) and millions of innocent little furry creatures will be set free to roam their natural habitat or an adoptive family AND you will be able to buy those perfect MAC lipsticks without your guilt conscience. Like I've said, you wouldn't like knowing that your beautiful pet could be locked up and tortured so you shouldn't like knowing that millions of innocent animals around the world are having that exact thing happening to them, as you are reading this.

You know how you come across an Instagram page, which leads you to another Instagram page, which then leads you to another and you find that you've gone too far to go back but you love everything about those pages? (Wow, that was a mouthful). Yeah, well that's what I have done recently and discovered two absolutely amazing designers/labels that I had not heard of but now am in serious awe of (AND are all Australian)! And now, I'm going to share them with you.

I honestly can say I have fallen in love with a brand- there is something about Gold Ordon that I cannot take my eyes off of. With outrageous-in a good way- neck pieces, staple leather bags and shoes and their exclusive ankle cuffs, the mastermind/s behind this label have managed to absolutely perfect the boho/Egyptian/luxe/classic look. I love everything on the site but I have picked my top 3 items from Gold Ordon for you to froth over below:

 "Hazardous Yet Courageous" choker

For only $125, this beautiful piece is a steal

Hazardous Yet Couragous

"Never Say Never" Sandals

Leopard print- CheckBlack tassels-Check
Criss Cross Tie-Up- Check

Never Say Never Sandal

 "White Mamba" Headpiece

THE headpiece to have.

White Mamba

The most beautiful bralettes I have come across so far. Beautiful embroidery and alluring lace, what more could a girl want (apart from an endless supply of money and puppies of course)? My three favourite beauties are:

Verity White Bralette

I think this deserves the title of "Goddess in a bralette", to be perfectly honest.

Sarah Black Bralette

Frenchie Bralette

Love the colour. Love the almost clamshape. Love Love Love

After weaving through various articles and images I've managed to compile together two simple, easy to follow rules that will help in your quest to conquer the supposedly un-conquerable. That is; print clashing- you've either got it or you don't got it and hopefully these rules will ensure that you do got it.

Rule 1 (PART ONE).

  • I believe the key is to keep one pattern simple: Don't mix a boisterous top with a exuberant pair of pants.

DO- boisterous paired with non-boisterous

DON'T- Well... you know what they say- a picture says a thousand words

Rule 1 (PART TWO).

  • If you do mix crazy patterns, make sure they are either the same colour palette OR a neutral coloured pattern and a bright coloured pattern.

DO- same colour and neutral/bright

DON'T

RULE 2

Match a small print with a large print- that way there is not an overdose of either and your outfit will pull off a wonder juxtoposition.

DO-

DON'T- Not one of Rihanna's finest outfits (and I do love her style)

RULE 3.

Have fun and don't be afraid to experiment- if you want to look like a shamozzle then go for it, no one is here to stop you girlfriend (or boyfriend), especially not me.

DISCLAIMER- These are all my OWN opinions, if you are offended I apologise and you continue to do your thing.

Absolutely LOVING odd stripes at the moment. Thick and thin horizontal stripes matched with the thick and thin vertical stripes makes for the perfect juxtaposition. Just look at these ah-mazing Bec and Bridge (S/S 14-15) and Bassike (S/S 15).
